The Suzanne Biederberg Gallery is delighted to invite you to our latest exhibition of Juul van den Heuvel’s most recent work—collaborating over 35 years!
Across more than three decades, van den Heuvel has developed a distinctive body of work that is both personal and universal. Her art invites the viewer to slow down, to look closely and to find beauty in what is both fragile and hidden, humorous and deep.
Her tools and influences:
the iron blade – to cut the sharp edges into the cloth
charcoal – to add, layer by layer
cloth – touch, sculpt
yellow – to leave one’s comfort zone
cats – play
time – presence
teacher – David Bowie
According to van den Heuvel: Fragments of memories play an important role in our lives—in my practice, in the studio. They recur throughout the work, appearing as a mood, as a narrative, as an image. The studio IS the work, a space where thinking and making are inseparable.
In the studio, the hand touches material—the wool, to knit pieces of time. Wool, cloth and charcoal become tools for passing time. Knitting, layering and shaping it into form. Textiles, soft structures that hold traces of the past. Drawing, on paper, through the slow layering of charcoal, to reveal intensive labour and repetition.
Making becomes an act of survival. The thinking and the doing take place simultaneously. There are horses for their strength and vulnerability, fairy tales adjacent to reality, monsters and angels.
The studio: do not judge, but let it be guesswork. Let the work grow and change. All is permitted, all is allowed.

Ontdek in Kunsthal Rotterdam het werk van de genomineerden voor de NN Art Award 2026. Het publiek maakt in de tentoonstelling kennis met het werk van Tina Farifteh (Gallery Vriend van Bavink), Mandy Franca (Night Café Gallery), Fiona Lutjenhuis (Galerie Fleur & Wouter) en Kyra Nijskens (Prospects Mondriaan Fonds). De prestigieuze onderscheiding wordt dit jaar voor de tiende keer toegekend aan een talentvolle kunstenaar die in Nederland is opgeleid en diens werk presenteert op de kunstbeurs Art Rotterdam. Authenticiteit en innovatie zijn leidende criteria voor deze jaarlijkse stimuleringsprijs.

Met veel genoegen nodigen wij u uit voor de tentoonstelling van het Grote Paddenstoelenwoud van de Arnhemse kunstenaar Arnout Visser in Kunstkamer de Grutmolen.
De Kunstkamer is iedere woensdag geopend van 19-20 uur en op afspraak.

Arnout Visser (1962) groeide op in een Middelburgse woning tussen de meubelen van zijn oom Martin (1922-2009) en de beelden van oom Carel (1928-2015). Zijn beroemd geworden ooms drukten een uitgesproken stempel op de jonge Arnout. Staand op hun schouders, bedacht en ontwikkelde hij al op 19-jarige leeftijd een balancerende halogeen tafellamp. Twee jaar later verkocht hij zijn ontwerp aan Lumiance, het bedrijf van kunstverzamelaar Harry Swaak. Deze bracht het ontwerp onder de naam Tablo lamp op de markt. Arnout werd zich bewust van zijn bijzondere talent en besloot om te gaan studeren aan de kunstacademie in Arnhem. In 1990-91 studeerde hij aan de Domus Academy in Milaan.
Visser noemt zichzelf een vormvinder met een liefde voor glas. Hij werkt in het schemergebied tussen kunst, design en fysica. Hij tovert met de fysische eigenschappen van materialen en vloeistoffen en creëerde zo heel bijzondere ontwerpen als het olie- en azijnstel Salad Sunrise en de brievenweger Archimedes die uw brief weegt met behulp van water.
Zijn Grote Paddenstoelen maakt hij met een team ervaren glasblazers in Tsjechië. Kunstkamer de Grutmolen nodigt u uit in ons woud van hallucinerende, bontgekleurde en lichtgevende paddenstoelen.

On Friday, January 16, we warmly invite you to the opening of ‘The Waves’, a group exhibition curated by Nesli Gül, featuring works by Gamze Öztürk, Anouk Kruithof, Lana Mesić and Mesut Öztürk at Contour Gallery in Rotterdam.
‘The Waves’, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s novel of the same name, explores identity as fluid, relational, and continuously shaped by memory, ecology, ritual, and interdependence. Across performance, video, installation, and sculpture, artists offer distinct yet interwoven perspectives: from ritual and bodily transformation to ecological and post-human narratives, material storytelling rooted in history and place and sculptural meditations on fragility, care, and solidarity. Together, their works create a terrain where the boundaries between body, nature, and technology are continuously renegotiated and invite reflection on how bodies, histories, and environments are deeply entangled within contemporary life.
During the opening, Gamze Öztürk will present a live performance of ‘Hands on Hips’, activating the space through embodied gesture, ritual, and collective presence.
